Footprintmatters2u January Junk Week Winnners
Footprintmatters2u are pleased to announce the winning school from the January Junk Week was……..Lodge Infants School of Caerleon.
A hearty congratulations to the school’s pupils and staff for a magnificent effort of collecting 427KG of waste electrical items, that will now be diverted from landfill. The school will receive a cheque for £200 for their efforts.
A big thank you must also go to all the other Newport schools that took part, it really was a fabulous response and everyone should be proud of their efforts. It is a great platform for pupils to become aware of the need to recycle and all the items collected will eventually be turned into new products in some form or another.
We will continue to work with the schools in any way we can to help them achieve recycling goals.

Fly-tipping Epidemic
GANGS of organised criminals are believed to be behind an illegal dumping epidemic in Cardiff which sees 20 reports of fly-tipping every day.
Cardiff council received 4,349 reports of illegally dumped waste between April and November 3 this year – the equivalent of more than 600 a month.
And enforcement officers said while the figures are in fact a huge improvement on previous years, there remains a serious problem of criminal gangs offering to remove waste from outside homes for a small fee and then tipping it.
The figures, released from the national Flycapture database following a freedom of information request, show items including white goods, asbestos, construction waste and chemicals have been dumped.
